Michigan Online Blackjack

Online blackjack has been legal in Michigan since January 2021, when the first state-licensed online casinos launched under the Lawful Internet Gaming Act. Every legal site is licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) and partnered with one of Michigan’s commercial or tribal casinos. Below are all 15 licensed online casinos, the rules you need to know, and how to check that a site is legal before you deposit.

Is Online Blackjack Legal in Michigan?

Yes. Real money online blackjack is legal in Michigan as long as you play at a site licensed by the MGCB. To play, you must:

  • Be at least 21. Licensed sites verify your age and identity before you can open an account.
  • Be in Michigan when you play. Sites use geolocation to check that you are inside the state. You don’t have to live in Michigan, but you do have to be there.
  • Use a licensed site. Offshore casinos that accept Michigan players are not licensed, and the MGCB regularly orders them to stop. If something goes wrong at an unlicensed site, you have no regulator to turn to.

How to Check a Site Is Licensed

The MGCB publishes the official list of authorized online casino and sports betting platforms on its website, michigan.gov/mgcb. If a site isn’t on that list, it isn’t legal in Michigan, however professional it looks. Signs of an unlicensed site include no age or ID check when you sign up, no geolocation check, and crypto-only deposits. You can report a suspected illegal gambling site to the MGCB on 1-888-314-2682 or at [email protected].

What to Look For in Michigan Blackjack Games

Licensed sites offer several blackjack versions, and their rules differ. Before you play a table, check:

  • The blackjack payout. Pick tables that pay 3:2. A 6:5 payout adds about 1.4% to the house edge.
  • Whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17. Standing on soft 17 is better for you.
  • The number of decks and whether you can double after splitting.
  • Live or digital. Live dealer tables are dealt by a real dealer on camera; digital games are dealt by a random number generator. See our live dealer guide.

Whatever you play, use basic strategy. It’s the single biggest thing you can do to lower the house edge, and you can practise it first with our free blackjack game.
