Live Dealer Online Blackjack: Rules, House Edge and Where to Play
By Ken Tucker (Kendall Saville) · Updated by the OnlineBlackjack.com editorial team
Live dealer blackjack streams a real dealer and physical cards to your screen. You place bets and choose your actions through the casino’s interface. The provider name is a starting point: the exact table rules determine the strategy and odds.
Explore ten studios below, compare published game configurations, and follow the source links for the details. For the broader choice between streamed play, digital games and casino-floor machines, see video vs live blackjack.

The analysed standard game and Unlimited version have different surrender and splitting rules. An early-surrender figure applies only when that exact rule is offered.

Visionary iGaming
The analysed six-deck Blackjack game uses hit soft 17. Early-payout offers need separate scrutiny; accepting one is not the same as playing the hand out.

Read with these qualifications
The detailed analysis specifies double after split and an ace-only peek; its summary table disagrees on these fields. We follow the narrative configuration. Other regional Evolution versions can differ.
Six-card Charlie configuration analysed by Wizard of Odds. Its 0.45% calculation differs from the 0.49% help-file figure quoted in that analysis. Other published versions differ. Players make individual decisions.
The 0.11% figure depends on early surrender against an ace. Without that rule this is not the same configuration. Against a dealer blackjack from a ten, doubles and splits can also lose.
The narrative analysis describes automatic splits for 2s, 3s, 6s, 7s, 8s and aces. It takes precedence here over the summary table’s contradictory split field.
The source qualifies its reading of the rules. It describes all wagers at risk against an ace, original-bet-only loss against a ten, and a ten-card Charlie. Confirm these details in the table help.
Six-deck H17 configuration. The cited analysis calculates 0.69% for this rule set. Early-payout offers are a separate decision and are not evaluated by that figure.
The provider confirms unlimited players and individual decisions from a shared box. Its public product page does not specify the full main-game rule set, so numerical fields are left unconfirmed.
Wizard of Odds explicitly infers this profile from limited information, assuming six decks and no re-splitting. It is a conditional calculation, not a verified current specification, and does not describe ONE Blackjack.
The narrative describes a ten-card Charlie and original-bet-only loss for doubles against a ten, but all doubled stakes at risk against an ace. It leaves split exposure unclear. The 0.43% figure is the source’s summary return, not a new calculation.
The detailed analysis specifies double after split, late surrender, a seven-card Charlie and 0.39% edge. Its summary table differs; we use the narrative configuration.
S17 means the dealer stands on soft 17; H17 means the dealer hits. A 3:2 blackjack pays $15 profit on a $10 stake. Double after split, surrender and dealer-blackjack exposure can change both strategy and house edge.
House-edge figures apply to the analysed rule set and its strategy assumptions, excluding optional side bets. They are not a prediction for a session. “Not confirmed” means the cited source does not establish that field. Provider brands, regional versions and game updates can use different rules.
The reference set uses Wizard of Odds analysis and provider product information, with sources attached to each game. Where a source’s narrative qualifies its summary table, the qualification is shown. For more table reviews, visit our sister site LiveDealers.com.
How a live dealer blackjack round works
English narration and on-screen captions. Illustrative examples use practice chips with no cash value.

A live dealer changes the presentation, not the need to read the rules. Before joining, check the table limits, blackjack payout and available decisions.
Here is an illustrative round, not a real casino screen. Choose your main bet before betting closes. Once cards arrive, read your hand and the dealer’s upcard. With a ten and an eight against a six in ordinary blackjack, basic strategy says stand. Select your decision before the timer expires; do not rely on a default action.
Side bets are separate and optional. Different live variants use different rules and decision windows, so do not assume every table works alike. Set spending and time limits first. Practise the decisions without money before playing at live speed.
How a live blackjack table works
A betting window opens before the deal. After the dealer distributes the cards, the interface offers the actions permitted by your hand and the table’s rules: hit, stand, double, split, and sometimes surrender. Decisions usually have a timer. Learn the relevant basic strategy and practise the controls in our free blackjack games first.
Seats, shared opening hands and Bet Behind
Traditional live tables commonly have seven playing positions. Some offer Bet Behind, where you back an occupied position; the seated player’s decisions and the provider’s follow rules matter. Read those rules before using it.
Unlimited-seat games can work differently. In Evolution Infinite Blackjack and Pragmatic Play ONE Blackjack, players share the opening hand but make individual decisions. Sharing the initial cards does not mean everyone must hit or stand together. Check each game’s splitting rules too.
Dealer blackjack checks and extra wagers
A dealer peek can settle a blackjack before you put more money on doubles or splits. Other games use no hole card, check only particular upcards, or protect some additional wagers when the dealer eventually has blackjack. “Peek: no” alone does not explain the whole risk. The comparison includes the source’s qualifications where these distinctions matter.
Shoes, shuffling and card counting
Live games use physical cards, but the number dealt before a shuffle varies. Early cut cards, reshuffles, table restrictions and game format can limit the usefulness of counting. Watching a live shoe is not evidence that a game offers a practical counting opportunity. Our card-counting guide explains the principles and limitations.
Rules worth checking before you bet
Blackjack payout: a $10 blackjack at 3:2 earns $15 profit; at 6:5 it earns $12. That is a $3 difference on that result, not on every hand.
Soft 17: S17 means the dealer stands; H17 means the dealer hits. This changes the correct strategy and the house edge.
Double and split rules: check which totals can double, whether doubling after a split is allowed, and what happens to split aces.
Surrender: early and late surrender are different. A low published edge that assumes early surrender does not apply to a table without it.
Dealer blackjack: establish whether you can lose doubles and split bets as well as the original stake.
Game fees and special rules: multiplier fees, dealer-22 pushes and automatic wins need their own analysis.
A headline multiplier does not tell you the cost of playing. Check any compulsory fee, the conditions for receiving or using a multiplier, and whether the quoted return includes that fee. Wizard of Odds’ Lightning Blackjack analysis distinguishes its strategy and fee assumptions. Do not compare a fee-based return directly with an ordinary table’s edge without understanding the denominator.
Free Bet Blackjack
“Free” doubles or splits come with rule changes. Some versions push ordinary player hands when the dealer reaches 22. Use the rules for the exact version and our Free Bet Blackjack guide; the mathematical analysis explains why the standard blackjack chart is not enough.
Power, unlimited and shared-hand games
Special deck compositions, Charlie wins, automatic splits or different betting positions can change the game substantially. We leave unconfirmed fields unfilled rather than applying another table’s numbers. Match the title and the rule screen, not just the studio branding.
Side bets are separate wagers
Perfect Pairs, 21+3, Hot 3 and other side bets have their own payout tables and house edges. A familiar name does not guarantee the same payout schedule across providers. The main-game edge in the comparison excludes these optional bets. Read our blackjack side-bet guide and check the displayed pay table before adding one.
Finding a casino with the game you want
The provider browser links to current casino reviews whose software feed includes that studio, subject to the site’s detected-location restrictions. A software listing does not confirm that a specific blackjack table is available to your account. Check the casino lobby, country and state restrictions, local authorisation, and account terms before depositing.
Our casino directory has software, payment and other filters. The real-money blackjack guide explains how to read offers: a casino welcome bonus may exclude live blackjack, contribute at a reduced rate, or have table-specific restrictions.
