The southern Strip gives you several resort options, but a casino’s name or a nearby hotel room does not tell you the blackjack rules. Start with a short list, then check the payout, playing options and minimum at each table before buying chips.

Mandalay Bay, Luxor and MGM Grand give this guide a southern focus. Check your hotel’s location and the entrance you intend to use before choosing an order. A short distance on a map can still involve a long route through a resort.

Set a limit before comparing tables

Decide on an affordable stake before looking for a seat. A better payout is useful, but moving to a much higher minimum changes how much money is exposed on every hand. Skipping a table is an option.

There is no single rule set to assume across Las Vegas. Read the table signage and ask the dealer or floor supervisor about anything it does not explain. The same property can offer different games and limits.

Natural blackjack payout

Look for 3:2 rather than 6:5 when comparing otherwise equivalent tables. Check that the sign describes blackjack, not just ordinary winning hands.

Dealer on soft 17

S17 means the dealer stands; H17 means the dealer hits. S17 is better for the player when other rules are equal. Use the matching strategy chart.

Doubling and splitting

Ask which hands may double, whether doubling after a split is allowed, how many hands may be split, and what happens with split aces.

Decks and shuffle process

Check deck count and whether the game uses a shoe, a continuous shuffler or another format. A familiar-looking table can use different rules.

Surrender and special rules

Ask whether surrender is available and when it may be used. Check special tie rules and whether you are sitting at standard blackjack or a variant.

Minimums and side bets

Confirm the main wager’s minimum and maximum. Optional side bets are separate wagers with their own payouts; do not confuse them with the main blackjack bet.
