Northern Strip Las Vegas Blackjack Casinos
Navigation: Las Vegas Blackjack > Northern Strip
For the purpose of this section, we considered everything from Casino Royale north and Treasure Island north to be the northern strip. While the casinos on the southern end of this section are as busy as they have ever been, the north end of this area has seen better days. There are failed construction projects and the shuttered Sahara Casino in the north end of the strip. There is also only one free tram in this area. That tram connects Treasure Island and Mirage. There is some good blackjack in this area and some of it has a low minimum bet.
There is not exceptional low limit blackjack game. Players looking for good video blackjack can find it at Circus Circus. The Aruze Gaming video blackjack game stays on all 17′s, allows splits up to three hands, offers surrender, and allows double after the split. All other games outside of high limit salons hit a soft 17. This game is the best low limit game on the north end of the strip.
The worst blackjack games can be found at single deck 6-5 blackjack tables at Circus Circus, Treasure Island, Stratosphere and Casino Royale. In fact, all blackjack games at Casino Royale pay 6-5 and should be avoided. Players looking for a good single deck blackjack game on the north end of the strip should visit Riviera. Players get paid 3-2 on blackjack, but can only double on 10 or 11 and may not double after the split. This game has a $10 minimum. Riviera is towards the end of a full remodel and has been generous with comps so low limit players can expect a better comp system there compared to other Las Vegas Strip casinos.

Northern Las Vegas Casinos Information
While Casino Royale is known for the only 100x craps game on the strip, their blackjack games leave a lot to be desired. All of the games are either single deck 6-5 blackjack or blackjack switch. The $5 minimum might seem attractive, but the poor games take away from that. They also do not have enough staff in the cashier cage so getting cashed out takes a long time. The casino is smoky, old and packed together. While drink service is fast, players can only receive well drinks and draft beer comped. Parking is almost nonexistent. Most Casino Royale players walk in from the strip and do not arrive by car. Casino Royale has earned a place in the Las Vegas Blackjack Hall of Shame due to its poor blackjack games.
Encore is sister property to The Wynn. Encore is five stars across the board. Everything about the Encore experience is what you would expect. The dealers, cocktail waitresses and floor personnel are all top notch. The blackjack is pretty good too. The best game is in high limit with a $100 minimum. It is a 6 deck game that stays on all 17′s and allows double after the split and surrender. The best game on the floor is the double deck that can start as low as $10. This double deck offers double after the split but the dealer hits soft 17.
To get to the Encore you can either park in their convenient parking deck located on the north end of the casino or park in the Wynn parking deck and walk next door. The Wynn and Encore are connected by an indoor corridor.
Circus Circus – Recommended for Video Blackjack
Circus Circus is known as a family style resort. The casino is located on the north end of The Strip. There is ample parking behind the casino in two separate parking decks. The casino floor at Circus Circus is very small compared to other casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The table games are very close together in an almost uncomfortable way. The casino is smoky and the condition of the tables and seating is poor. As The Las Vegas Strip goes, this is about as low end as it gets.
The best blackjack game in Circus Circus is actually the video blackjack machine located in the front of the casino. That machine allows double after the split and surrender while staying on all 17′s. The best live blackjack game is the double deck but it has a $25 minimum, hits soft 17 and does not allow double after the split. The $5 minimum 6 deck allows double after the split but offers no other player friendly rules. While the Adventuredome at Circus Circus is a great place to take the kids, there are much better places to take your blackjack action.
Palazzo is the sister property of Venetian. The two casinos are connected. Palazzo offers parking that is very convenient off of Sands Ave just east of Las Vegas Blvd. Just as Venetian is beautiful in every detail, so is Palazzo. The casino is very clean and all of the tables and seats are in excellent condition. The casino air is virtually free of smoke, the dealers do a great job and drink service is quick and includes high end liquor.
The blackjack games are decent compared to many of the blackjack games that can be found in neighboring casinos. The standard games have a $15 minimum bet and hit soft 17. The double deck allows players to double after the split. The six deck shoe allows double after the split, resplit aces and surrender. Blackjack Switch and Spanish 21 are also offered.
Riviera – Recommended for Low Limit Comps
Riviera is one of the lowest end casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The casino has been spending money to clean up its image for the past year and it is working. The table game area has been remodeled and the tables are spaced well and clean. This makes for a more comfortable playing environment. Parking is located off of Paradise Road behind the casino.
The best blackjack game in the casino is the single deck 3-2 game with a $10 minimum bet. There is only one table with these rules, the other single deck games pay 6-5 on blackjack. The next best table game is the double deck where players can double after the split with a $25 minimum bet. The six deck shoe games allow doubling after the split and resplit aces. All games hit a soft 17.
There is also a Crazy Girls party pit at Riviera. The rules remain the same in the party pit as they are at the other blackjack tables. There is one unique game in the party pit. That game is Bottoms Up. All cards are dealt face up in this game, including the dealer’s cards. Players lose pushes and only get paid even money on blackjacks. Players may also only double on 10 or 11 and may not double down after the split.
The Stratosphere has just finished a large remodel. The casino’s tables and seating were improved but are still not up to the level of high end casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The casino is average in every way. This is your middle of the road casino. While the Stratosphere is not convenient to any other casino, there is a large convenient parking deck behind the hotel.
All blackjack games at Stratosphere hit soft 17. The best blackjack game is the $5 minimum six deck shoe. This game allows doubling after the split and resplit aces. There are also single and double deck pitch games. The single deck pays 6-5 on blackjack and neither allows doubling after a split.
Treasure Island offers one great blackjack game and a handful of good ones. The best game in the house can be found in high limit. This game is a 6 deck shoe with a $100 minimum. The dealer stays on all 17′s in this game where players can double after the split, surrender and resplit aces. Games with $10 minimums hit soft 17 and include a $10 6 deck shoe with doubling after the split, surrender and resplit aces. The single deck allows doubling after a split but pays 6-5 on blackjack.
Treasure Island has parking access from both Las Vegas Blvd and Spring Mountain Rd. The parking deck is located behind the casino. There is also a tram that connects to Mirage. Treasure Island is above average in every comfort level aspect and drink service is above average.
The Wynn is a five star experience for players and guests. The upscale experience is a must see for those that enjoy playing blackjack in fine establishments. The air is clean and the drink service is high quality with many high end liquors available. Parking at Wynn is very convenient with the parking deck elevators located just off the casino floor.
The six deck shoe is the best game. All games outside of a rare high limit game hit soft 17. This game has a $15 minimum in some pits. The game allows doubling after the split, surrender and resplit aces. There are many different double deck games. All allow doubling after the split. The minimum bet in these pitch games is $50.
Venetian is one of the highest end casinos in Las Vegas. Everything about Venetian gives off a luxurious aura. The waitresses, dealers and pit bosses are all classy and friendly. The casino air is clean, although a bit on the perfumed side. The entire feel of Venetian is high end. The parking situation is a bit poor. To access the parking deck you must enter from Koval Lane near Harrah’s. I suggest parking in their sister property’s deck under Palazzo and walking through the shopping area between the two casinos.
Venetian offers many great blackjack games in their high limit salon. These include a double deck game that stays on all 17s and allows doubling after the split. The six deck game in the salon offers doubling after the split, resplit aces and surrender. This game also stays on all 17′s. The games on the main casino floor all hit soft 17. These games include a six deck shoe with double after the split, resplit aces and surrender. The double deck allows doubling after the split. These games have a $25 minimum but there are a few $15 tables away from the main pits. Blackjack Switch and Spanish 21 are also offered.
